Paragliders can be flown from thousands of destinations all over the world, if you’re an avid paraglider then chances are you have found a spot nearby to launch. If you’re an adventure traveller then chances are you have found some amazing locations with just incredible surroundings. If you haven’t done much travelling then pay attention here are some destinations you need to add to your bucket list right now. Most of the places are pretty off the beaten path but well worth the excursion.
Torrey Pines, California
Lots of paragliders start out at the Torrey Pines Gliderport in California, launching from the cliffs and taking in the incredible views while coasting on a Pacific Ocean Breeze. This was a hub for hang gliders for years before paragliders discovered it too. There is plenty of parking so you’re not hauling your gear for miles and it’s a great spot for the newbies to the sport.
People have been paragliding here since the beginning of the sport. This Swiss town is nestled in the Alps and is a hub for all kinds of tourists from skiers to shoppers. Paragliders launch from the mountains and can land right in Interlaken itself in a nearby park. Paragliding is incredibly popular in Switzerland and you can launch from several destinations in the Alps.
This is probably one place you’ve never heard of but the is one of the go to hot spots for paragliding in Europe. Be prepared for the harrowing ride up to the top of Mount Babadag, that alone is an adventure! The mountain is 6,500 feet of limestone overlooking the incredible white sandy beach in Oludeniz and it can get pretty crowded with dozens of paragliders there every day. After you’re done you can kick back with a meal at the Fly Inn Cafe or the slightly more upscale Ottomania Restaurant offering views of the other paragliders. Now you need to be really adventurous to head to the winter wonderland of Voss in Norway. The area is located between two of Norway’s famous fjords the Hardanger and the Sogn. The town is ideal for extreme sports of all kinds. Launching from the nearby mountains the view can’t even be described, you just have to see it for yourself. Bear in mind that weather will be a big factor in how much paragliding you get in here. You can get to Voss by train and the trip lets you see some pretty incredible views of the fjords.
Paragliding in these destinations is a great excuse to get out and see the world, experience other cultures and take in views only a handful of people get to see. Grab the opportunity for a memorable experience, you never know what the future holds.
